Rap Fame, the community-driven hip hop platform with more than 20 million registered artists worldwide, has hosted its sixth annual Rap Fame Awards, recognizing independent artists and producers across 18 categories.
This year's awards drew hundreds of thousands of community votes, combined with input from a guest judging panel led by legendary producer Scott Storch, known for his work with Dr. Dre and Beyoncé and credited with generating over 50 billion streams. He was joined by GRAMMY-winning producer Jahlil Beats, Netflix's Rhythm + Flow star Cody Ray, rising artist Nikki Paige, and Ben Jayne, producer of the platinum hit "New Freezer" featuring Rich the Kid and Kendrick Lamar.
Storch's top pick was Cairo Snow, a 12-year-old rapper who has already shared the stage with Wu-Tang Clan at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto. Cairo went on to win Best Young Artist and Best Visual at this year's ceremony. "After listening to the tracks, I can say that the talent on this platform is very real," Storch noted.
Other standout winners included Mz Londonn, a single mother battling Lupus who took home Track of the Year with a song featuring her children; Justura, a dentistry student who became the first-ever female winner of Best Lyricist; and Jay Nappy, a long-distance truck driver who records music in his cab and won Most Improved. Candelady earned Woman of the Year for the third time, while Weathermvn took both Rap Fame Legend and Best Contest Entry.
"Our awards are a grassroots, community-driven answer to the GRAMMYs and other big-name prizes," said Rap Fame co-founder Dan Patapau. "Recognition is an important piece of feeling like you're part of something, to create this feeling of celebration, of belonging."
Since its founding in 2019, Rap Fame has surpassed 30 million downloads and 1 billion total plays, and has awarded more than $300,000 to independent artists.
